MAGIC 6 - YOGA WARM UP
Magic 6 is part of a sequence created by my amazing and inspiring teacher Sharon Gannon (pictured). Sharon is 67 years young and is the co-founder along with David Life of the Jivamukti Yoga method.
This sequence is a short and effective way of getting into the body before a class of movement, or before getting on with your day.
Ideal props: yoga mat, 2 yoga bricks and a yoga belt. You can definitely make do with a dressing gown belt and sturdy, thick books.
Once complete, set a timer for 5 minutes and sit tall and quietly, focusing on the breath in your belly. As the breath comes in the belly rises and as the breath goes out the belly softens. It’s sometimes nice to place a hand on your belly to aid your focus - and that may feel calming. As the breath comes in, silently say to yourself "Let" and as the breath goes out, silently say to your self "Go". Repeating this mantra focusing on the breath and your words until the timer stops. Letting go of all that is holding you back from being happy and free. Then you can either leave it there or work into a more dynamic yoga practice.
