LEAVE IT ALL BEHIND: PURIFICATION THROUGH PRACTICE - A SPECIAL END OF YEAR CLASS

A FREE END OF YEAR CLASS. 90 MINUTES IN DURATION.

Book via Camyoga website.

We will have the opportunity to choose something that is no longer serving us, burning it up and becoming purified through chanting and practice, empowered to face the New Year with positivity, determination, open hearts and open minds.

“Tapas is derived from the root “tap” meaning to blaze, burn, shine, suffer pain or consume by heat. It therefore means a burning effort under all circumstances to achieve a definite goal in life. It involves purification, self-discipline and austerity. The whole science of character-building may be regarded as practice of tapas”.  BKS Iyengar - Light on Life

SPIRITUAL CINEMA SATSANG - WHAT IS REAL? THE STORY OF JIVAMUKTI YOGA

SPIRITUAL CINEMA SATSANG - WHAT IS REAL? THE STORY OF JIVAMUKTI YOGA

A spiritual cinema Satsang showing a recently released documentary film, 'What is Real?', featuring our Jivamukti teachers David Life & Sharon Gannon, and the inspirational worldwide yoga community they have inspired.

With tea and cookies. Donations to charity
To book please email info@yogastudioely.co.uk

'What is Real?' tells the real-life story of two visionaries, Sharon Gannon & David Life, who started teaching yoga in the Lower East Side in the mid-eighties. The yoga method they developed, Jivamukti Yoga, became wildly popular amongst New Yorkers, caught on with celebrities, and soon spread around the world.

The film is directed and narrated by South African native Jay Mac, and portrays the extraordinary journey of his life surviving personal tragedies, working in the frantic world of advertising, and how he was transformed by his journey to becoming a Jivamukti Yoga teacher.

Including rare and unseen footage from the early days of Jivamukti Yoga, with cameos by luminaries like Grammy-nominated musician Krishna Das, who began his musical career playing at the yoga studio. Celebrity practitioners Michael Franti, Sting, Donna Karan and Russell Simmons also make appearances, along with a host of many lesser-known but equally interesting yogis and local personalities.

SATSANG & SCREENING OF WHAT IS REAL? THE STORY OF JIVAMUKTI YOGA

SATSANG & SCREENING OF WHAT IS REAL? THE STORY OF JIVAMUKTI YOGA

Join me and Casey from Thaxted Yoga for a FREE event on Sunday 13 November from 5:30 – 8:30pm at the stunning new Thaxted Yoga Studio (directions here).  The event is FREE but registration is required to reserve your space.  To register, view the class schedule either on the Thaxted Yoga website, or download the free Thaxted Yoga app, find this event offered on 13 November and click on the ‘sign up’ button where you will register your details.

The evening will be hosted by me and will consist of a brief introduction to yoga, a meditation (mantra meditation), a screening of the new film ‘What is Real? The Story of Jivamukti Yoga’ followed by a closing meditation, snacks/drinks and the opportunity to discover more about yoga both on and off the mat. Jivamukti Yoga is arguably the most influential modern yoga method around today – come and find out why!

The event is suitable for all who are keen to deepen their knowledge of yoga practices and those curious about how a method of bringing traditional Indian systems to the West has grown to become so influential.  It is also a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded yoga students and teachers as well as a chance to check out the new Thaxted Yoga studio and meet some of the teachers.

What is Satsang?

Satsang is a gathering of beings to share in what is real.  Satsangs involve yoga practices such as meditation (often mantra meditation), shared food and an opportunity to spend more time with like-minded beings who are open to exploration of why we are here, what is real and other philosophical questions. To celebrate this first opportunity to hang out and spend time together as a yoga community, we are delighted to be able to offer an exclusive showing of the movie ‘What is Real’?

Satsang is a Sanskrit word that means “gathering together for the truth” or more simply, “being with the truth.” Truth is what is real, what exists. So all there is, is Truth. Whenever something increases your experience of the Truth, it opens your Heart and quiets your mind. Conversely, whenever something such as a thought, fear, or judgment, limits or narrows your experience of the Truth, the Heart contracts and the mind gets busier. We are all equally endowed with this capacity to discriminate the Truth. Thus, the true teacher, or satguru, is within you, and satsang, or being with the Truth, is endless. You have always been here in the embrace of your true nature as aware, loving space. You have always been in satsang.

Truth is too simple for words
before thought gets tangled up in nouns and verbs
there is a wordless sound
a deep breathless sigh
of overwhelming relief
to find the end of fiction
in this ordinary
yet extraordinary moment
when words are recognized
as words
and truth is recognized
as everything else
